Photo Inset: The newly-established Hintonburg Cycling Champions program with the Hintonburg Community Association promoted safe cycling for kids in the ‘burg with Bike Parade on May 28. The Bike Parade was led by marshalls, easy to identify because of the balloons trailing from their bikes. The group rode from Hintonburg Community Centre to Parkdale Market for ArtsPark ringing their new bike bells – free for all participants courtesy of Cyclelogik and WWBIA Cycling Committee. The collection of children and parents had bikes decorated, riders in costume, or both. They rode through the park and then circled the empty wading pool while Katherine Hobbs, Paul Dewar, and Hintonburg Cycling Champions member Kathleen Wilker chose the winners. For her efforts to promote cycling in the community, Wilker received the City of Ottawa’s 2010 Bruce Timmerman’s Individual Award in a ceremony on May 31 as part of Bike to Work Week in Ottawa.
