Writing Contest: Recreation in your neighbourhood.
Newswest invites students in  Kitchissippi ages 14 to 18 to submit  written entries on the theme of  “Recreation in Your Neighbourhood,”  We’re giving away iPods to the winners!  Topics on the subject might include:  what’s your favourite form of  recreation in your neighbourhood? Are  there enough things to do for recreation  in the neighbourhood? How does recreation  improve the quality of life of a  neighbourhood? Or, develop a topic of  your own on the theme.
There’s a 2,000-word maximum, and  the style is yours to choose. Deadline for  submissions is April 30, 2011, and we’ll  announce the winners in Newswest on  June 16, 2011. To be eligible, you must  be either a student resident in Kitchissippi  ward, or attending school in the ward.
We’ve got a stellar panel of  Kitchissippi bloggers on board to judge  the entries: Bob LeDrew who writes  FlackLife (www.flacklife.com); Vicky  Smallman, Miss Vicky’s Offhand  Remarks (www.offhand.ca); and, Andrea  Tomkins, a peek inside the fishbowl  (www.quietfish.com/notebook). The entries  will be judged on their clarity, rhetoric  and metaphor, vocabulary, originality,  and emotional appeal.
Two winners will be chosen. First  prize is an iPod Touch, and the runner up  will win a second-gen iPod Shuffle.  Winning entries will be printed in  Newswest. Send entries to jeff.leiper@gmail.com, and include your full name,  age, address and school.
