Fundraising passes halfway mark.

Connaught Public School has passed the halfway mark in its $180,000 schoolyard renewal campaign. The funds are being raised to turn Connaught’s aging, dusty schoolyard into a place that is green, fun and accessible. A new kindergarten play structure and sandbox, shade trees to replace those lost due to urban development, and new sports equipment are just a few of the planned enhancements.

With a recent $1,000 contribution from the Hintonburg Economic Development Committee, and another $1,000 raised through an Earth Day community e-waste drive, the schoolyard renewal campaign has raised $95,000. School council volunteers are working to raise the additional $85,000 by the spring of 2018.

“We are so thankful to our community of parents, neighbouring residents, local businesses and community organizations who have helped us reach this important milestone,” says Karen Monaghan, chair of the campaign’s fundraising team. “And there’s more to come.”

May 28 will be “Connaught Day” at Hintonburger in its new location at 1066 Somerset Street West. There will be fun activities for the kids and a portion of sales that day will be donated to the playground renewal campaign.

On June 14th, Connaught students will attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the largest game of tunnel ball. Students will fundraise by collecting pledges, and local businesses are invited to sponsor the event.

More information can be found at https://connaughtschoolyardrenewal.ca , which is also where donations eligible for tax receipts, can be made.
