The Ottawa Gymnastics Centre hosted a provincial qualifier with more than 200 athletes from around Ontario competing in early December. Kathleen Murphy, the meet director and president of the OGC board, was very pleased with the turnout and the support from the community. “Many thanks to our sponsors and donations from across the city who continue to support the Ottawa Gymnastics Center year after year for this event. The fundraising efforts help support the diverse programs and help promote the gym,“ she said.
Mary Villemaire and Monica Estrada, both Level 9 gymnasts at OGC and students at Notre Dame High School, were pleased with their respective performances. Estrada reflected, “I felt I did better with both my overall performance and controlling my emotions than at the previous competition. It was nice to do the Qual at the home gym.” Villemaire commented, “I am really pleased that I achieved my goal of completing my full bar routine – it’s what I was working on throughout training .” Both girls now are focused on writing their final exams of the first semester and on training for their future competitions, two of which are being held in Oshawa this January and February.
Murphy said that the OGC is looking forward to hosting the men’s meet , the 2nd Ontario Cup and 1st High Performance Qualifier this March 4 – 6 and invites the Ottawa community to come and watch awesome, high level competitive men’s gymnastics.
