June 28, 2012: Puffer Scam.
By Security Committee, Hintonburg Community Association.
A fellow is knocking on doors, often around 10 pm at night, saying he is a new neighbour or he is looking after his elderly father’s house very close by. He often gives an exact address. He says he has left his wallet at work and his daughter needs an asthma puffer. He asks to borrow $20. If offered a puffer he refuses. This is a fraud that first was seen in the Kitchissippi community about seven years ago. We have had reports from Hintonburg and from Dalhousie of the revival of this scam. The fellow is very convincing.
Please do not give him money. Please contact police, they are well aware of him and ask that he be reported. Call police at 613- 230-6211 (dispatch) if he has just been at your door, give a description and the direction he is heading. If you have had him at your door in the past please report the incident to the following people: Sgt. Stephanie Blades at firstname.lastname@example.org and Cst. Andrew Milton, our Wellington Community Police Officer at email@example.com Please provide what happened (what, when, where), a description of him and your contact information.
