May 3, 2012: Welcome Spring at the Hintonburg Tulip Festival.
Welcome Spring at the Hintonburg Tulip Festival.
By Cheryl Parrott, Hintonburg Economic Development Committee.
“Come and get some hardy plants that grow well in The Burg.”
You know spring has arrived when the Hintonburg Tulip Festival and the Parkdale Market join forces to open Parkdale park and the market for another great summer of food and activities. Thanks to the generosity of our business partners we are able to provide a free, fun festival for everyone including the ever popular horse and trolley ride as well as a big bouncy slide. The event will be held on May 12 from noon to 4 pm at Parkdale park behind Parkdale market. Our heavy rain date is May 13, with a much smaller festival.
A plant exchange and sale will be the warm up to the Tulip Festival, running from 10 am till noon, situated near the market and master gardeners. Come and get some hardy plants that grow well in The Burg.
Well-known food critic Gay Cook will again lead a panel of judges in the Best Brownie Bake-off. All entries must be received by 12:30 pm and judging begins by 1 pm. Once the judging is finished the crowd has a chance to buy the brownies with all proceeds going to the newly formed Hintonburg Recreation Association (HRA). Money raised from the fundraising BBQ and bake sale will also go to the HRA.
The highlight of the day is always the children’s activities– there is something for all the children and adults. Activities range from tug of war, potato sack races, the ever popular dance contests, Hip Hop demos, crafts, face painting, mural painting, and fish pond for the younger children. Our youth DJ 911 and children’s program director Julie will keep the activity going all afternoon.
For some quieter time visit some of the information tables of local groups and agencies. A student working with the Hintonburg Recreation Association will be there doing a survey to find out what recreation residents want in this area. Finding this information is critical to planning for the fall.
Looking for a Hintonburg The Burg T-shirt? We’ll have them there for sale – $15 for adults and $10 for children and youth.
We still need volunteers to make this day a success – if you can volunteer some time and/or donate some baked goods please contact Lorrie at 613-761-6672 or email@example.com
Come out for a fun day for everyone and help us celebrate spring in The Burg.
