The Vision Mate program. CNIB volunteers provide one-on-one sighted assistance to individuals who are blind or partially sighted. Whether it's reading someone's mail aloud to them, organizing things around the home, assisting with errands or friendly visiting, our volunteers make a lasting difference in their lives. Our volunteer team is made up of people of all ages and from all walks of life.
As part of CNIB's volunteer team, you'll have an opportunity to have a direct impact in your community, make friends and develop contacts, learn new skills, and build your resum�. Painters’ Circle. "Come and join a group of friendly peers to paint together, share ideas, and encourage each other. The not for profit Painters’ Circle meets on Tuesday mornings in Westboro. There is a suggested fee of $10 per session or pay-what-you-can to cover the cost of renting a room in the Unitarian church in Westboro. The circle is ongoing through the year with holiday breaks.

Social Seniors. Join in an afternoon of cards, bridge, euchre, board games and socializing every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Parish Hall, 153 Woodroffe Ave. All seniors are welcome to attend this weekly non-denominational gathering social gathering. Who to Call. When a crime is in progress, then call 911. Or call 613-230-6211 to have an officer attend a scene. Call 236-1222 x 7300 to make a report to the Ottawa Police. And keep your local Community Police Officer informed, especially for crimes likely not reported to the other numbers listed here. And it is a good idea to inform your neighbourhood-watch/community association so your neighbours know what to look out for.

* If popups don't appear check your browser’s pop-up blocking settings.
Single days may be shown in a multi-layer overlay instead.
* Mobile mode (using m. or mobile. subdomains) disables pop-ups except for the -View-All- month pop-up. Preview -only mode disables the single day pop-ups.

To use an overlay option (drop-in boxes);
♦ Click on the Pop-ups button in the top right of the display.
* Chose Overlay1 for day outputs to appear on the right.
* Chose Overlay2 for outputs to appear on the left or both.
* Chose Preview-only for mobile users who don't want drop-ins or pop-ups.
*(Mobile users using should see the word 'Mobile' in the button instead indicating a forced unfolded Preview-only setting)
Search results also appear in overlays with the Overlay2 option.

♦ Each overlay box may be dragged by its title bar.
* They can be closed by clicking on the corner X button.
* The escape key (esc) on your keyboard closes all open overlay boxes.
* Switching to Preview/Mobile from Overlay2 will close the last overlay box opened.

Preview panel controls feature:
The preview panel also has (right column);
♦ Day/week VCR-like controls to select date,
♦ A �Just-In� button for the latest records added.
♦ A preview window help link for help in a pop-up.
♦ A date selected link to display the day in a pop-up or overlay.
♦ More/less link to display more info inside the preview section.
Preview panel length can be increased with the Long / Short link buttons on the panel’s title bar (folded mode only).

Calendar Table controls feature:
The Calendar Table (left column) has;
♦ Day/week/month VCR-like controls to select date,
♦ Simple search function (15 matches/90 days) plus event type filter.
♦ A �link button to the Newswest welcome/home page.
♦ A �link button to the Newswest site-map page.
The date controls also affect the preview panel. The date in the preview panel is indicated by a red dashed outline in the table.
Doing a search:
To use the Calendar Table Find function;
♦ Select the first date for the search using the Day/week/month VCR-like controls,
♦ In the Text box add an optional event type filter (e.g. [A] for Arts, [B} for buying and selling, [F] for food, [M] for music etc.).
♦ Add the word or short string of characters you wish to find in the event title/description. Avoid special characters.
♦ Hit enter or click on the recycle icon. Events found are presented in the preview panel for regular visitors or below the find box when using the address.
To perform a general search of all other Newswest content goto the Site-map page to see a Google custom site search box.

Mobile Version::
This page is best viewed from when using a touch screen device like a smartphone or tablet. The page remains unfolded and with full descriptions in the Preview panel. Mobile users will also see extra content below the Find box in the left column (including the output from searches). Pop-ups on mobile devices are limited to the View All button and week numbers. Mobile users are also invited to use the 7-Day feed output for easy on-line reading of the current week of events.

Accessibility controls:
♦ The Hide/Show button at the top right of this webpage hides these control if they are not wanted.
♦ The A+, Rst, and A- buttons are to adjust the size of text in the page.
♦ The Pop-ups button provides alternate presentation options.
* Its Overlay2 setting presents search results outside the preview section.
♦Searches may be entered in the box below the calendar table. Searches may also be run from the browser’s address bar. Add the text ?find= after the .html seen in the address bar. Then any text after the ?find= is the text to be searched for.
Favourite searches may be bookmarked.
♦ The unfold button reloads the calendar as a single long page without collapsible accordion sections.
Submit an Event request:
Send your request by email (see Submit Events link below the banner). Please provide the description in plain text. Please limit it to 50 words for the Print edition.
The Online description field is preferably ~170 characters or less. On-line Titles, date, time and location fields are just a few words each. Our on-line policy FAQ explains why.
Allow 10 to 21 days for review and edits. Normal for-profit events (Bars, Taverns, Galleries, Theatre productions) are printed in ‘Kitchissippi Going Out’, For that column or other advertising contact Kitchissippi Times.
Submit an Image of Your Event:
To give community events more �visibility� Newswest offers space at the top of this webpage and in our event emails to subscribers. Offer is limited to Kitchissippi / Carlingwood events.
Each event image can be seen for 10 seconds each cycle. There may be upto 6 events promoted in any month.

You may submit a selection of digital images for our volunteer graphic editors. Or you may chose to format the banner yourself. Event picture banners are a 5:1 aspect ratio, 720 by 148 pixels.
We select for Colour, visual appeal, community interest. All banners selected will be overlaid with the Newswest Logo. The event name, credits are also added. Other graphic re-processing may be used.
Banners may appear on weeks near the event date or by season. Overlaid Banners used will become copyright Newswest. This offer is not for normal advertising, PR or commercial material.

You can use this page when not on the Internet.
You may keep this calendar open in your browser, after going offline.
Many browsers will let you save a working copy of the calendar.
To save a copy from your browser�s File menu. Go to menu File:. Chose Save As (or Save Page As). Next, select Webpage Complete in the Save as type option. (Safari users: chose Web archives type). Internet Explorer 8’s Web archive, single file type is also a better choice.
To use offline just load your saved copy back into your browser. There may be some visual differences from the online version. Some features linking other web resources will not work in a saved copy.
Remember to go on-line each week and save a new copy. That way you won't miss out on any newly added events.
